West Lancashire Residents Benefit from More Efficient Benefits System
Council goes live with Capita Software Services benefits solution

Capita Software Services today announced that West Lancashire District Council has gone live with its Academy Benefits solution. The contract, which will run over a five year period, will help the Council automate certain internal processes as residents gain from a faster and more efficient Benefits service. A mobile platform has also been created which will, in the future, allow Council employees to verify Housing and/or Council Tax Benefits claims `on the doorstep` via a handheld device.
The contract has been part-funded by the Department for Work and Pensions via its Perfomance Standards Fund. Capita Software Services is providing the Council with its Academy Benefits software solution incorporating Academy Mobile, Public Internet Access and staff Home Working options.
Councillor Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for Finance at West Lancashire District Council, commented, "We want to ensure that our citizens benefit from enhanced services and that they can access them in the most convenient way possible. Capita Software Services has proved that they can deliver a user-friendly benefits solution which will help us meet new legislation requirements as well as work towards the government's efficiency agenda."
Paul Millard, Associate Director for Capita Software Services, commented: "The benefits process is often seen as over-complicated so it's important that Councils continually review their systems and take advantage of opportunities to simplify the back-office process. We're extremely pleased to have gone live with our system for West Lancashire District Council and look forward to working with their Benefits team in the delivery of the mobile, public internet access and home working capability."
