Derby residents will today start to benefit from the Council's new revenue and benefits system implemented and managed by Capita, a leading provider of IT and software services. The contract includes IT service management for a five year period. Residents will now be able to check their accounts online and make payments via the internet. The Council will benefit from more efficient internal processes with improved and timely access to customer information. This will allow Council employees to make informed decisions faster and increase turn-around time on enquiries and payment management.
Councillor Chris Williamson, Leader of Derby City Council commented, "As an excellent Council it's important for us to provide our citizens with the best levels of service. Therefore it is essential that our IT and processes evolve with market demand in order to ensure that our service is 'fit for purpose' to meet customer expectations. Having worked with Capita for over ten years and gone through a competitive procurement process, we were confident that they could deliver the IT platform to take advantage of future developments such as mobile working and the shared services approach. Capita was also able to work very closely with our revenue and benefits team to ensure the implementation caused minimal disruption to the existing service."
In order to have a thorough understanding of future requirements Capita worked alongside the Council to carry out an initial review of existing processes and IT within the revenue and benefits department. As a result of the findings, the new system, consisting of the Academy Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits applications has been configured to allow the Council's revenue and benefits system to integrate with the Council's core IT infrastructure. Capita was responsible for the delivery of project management, data migration, implementation, consultancy and training.
Kevin Dady, Executive Director of The Capita Group Plc, said: "We are delighted to have further developed our relationship with Derby City Council and to be announcing the launch of its new revenue and benefits service. The procurement of this end-to-end revenue and benefits IT service from Capita demonstrates the continued confidence the Council has in our ability to understand their needs and deliver market leading solutions to meet them."
