Capita Software Services today announced that it has been selected by Glasgow City Council to provide its new Council Tax and Benefits software. This follows a competitive procurement process which included a rigorous and comprehensive "Demonstration of Capability"*. As one of Scotland's largest public sector organisations with approximately 38,000 employees, the Council will benefit from a robust platform from which to deliver a faster and more efficient Council Tax and Benefits service to its 600,000 citizens. In addition to providing a platform for further developments in the service the new system will ensure that the Council is fully compliant with current and future government legislation.
Councillor Ruth Simpson, the City Treasurer of Glasgow City Council, commented: "Capita Software Services was awarded the contract as it demonstrated Best Value as well as expertise and reliability in the delivery of a high quality Council Tax and Benefits solution. We are looking to improve constantly our performance in Council Tax collection rates and this will clearly assist in our efforts. For our Benefits service, the new software package will ensure that our residents obtain an improved level of service, including the ability for more convenient access."
The contract, worth in excess of £1million, is set to go live in early 2006 and will run over a five-year period. Capita Software Services will provide the council with its Academy Council Tax and Benefits applications as well as its StreetWise Mobile Computing and Citizen self-service modules. Additionally, the contract includes Capita remote support for the database and applications. As part of the agreement, Capita will provide full implementation services to Glasgow City Council including provision of project management, business consultancy, training, application interfaces and historical data conversion from the current in-house systems.
Paul Bradbury, Divisional Director for Capita Software Services, said: "We are delighted to be working in close partnership with Glasgow City Council. This contract fully endorses the fact that the applications and associated services provided by Capita Software Services are a leading choice and well suited to the diverse needs of local authorities of any size. We look forward to delivering an enhanced, more efficient service to the benefit of Glasgow City Council, its employees and in turn its citizens."
