Capita Internet Payments Delivers Swift Solution to Major Charity Appeal
Published: 14/02/2005
The Leeds Durban AIDS Appeal was launched by Leeds City Council on World AIDS Day, December 1st, 2004. The campaign aimed to raise money to help deliver badly-needed care, in the form of home-based care kits, to people with AIDS in Leeds' South African partner city of Durban. Each kit contains enough equipment to help improve daily life for sufferers and their families.
In early February 2005, former Leeds United and South African captain Lucas Radebe, along with representatives of the city of Leeds, travelled to Durban to deliver one thousand care kits, bought with the £10,000 raised by the appeal.
Some 60% of the donations to the appeal were made online, via Capita's AXIS Internet Payments (AXIS IP) solution. Capita was delighted to assist Leeds with the campaign and was only too aware of the tight timescales on making the online payments facility available to donors. After discussing the detailed requirements with the campaign organisers, the Leeds appeal website, with tailoring to reflect Leeds' look and feel, and with AXIS IP fully integrated, was built in just five days. A test site was made available prior to the go-live date, allowing for further tightening of the solution, final testing and sign off in readiness for the non-moveable start time.
Adrian Strain, Head of International Relations at Leeds City Council said, "The online donation site offered a convenient and easy means for people to donate to the Leeds Durban AIDS appeal. We had never used an online payment system before, but Capita took us through the process step-by-step and tailored the site to our specific needs."
On Boxing Day 2004, the world learnt of the tragic tsunami disaster in south Asia. Leeds City Council immediately decided to start the Building Hope - Leeds/Sri Lanka Tsunami Appeal. The target was to raise £250,000 to fund a long-term sustainable project in Sri Lanka, helping children who have been orphaned or left homeless.
The Council once again asked Capita to help with the campaign and provide the Internet Payments solution for the duration of the appeal. Once again, Capita implemented the solution quickly and seamlessly.
AXIS IP offers a fully managed Internet payment solution that is accessible 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The service was launched in 2001 and now processes millions of pounds worth of transactions per month.
Because we manage all the infrastructure and software for you we can help you reduce your costs and eliminate risk.
The solution uses one of the highest levels of Internet security available utilising 128-bit SSL3 encryption. The authority is also able to maintain its corporate look and feel throughout the transaction. Other options, including intranet payments, are also available.
