Capita Software Services today announced that it has been selected by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Chesterfield Borough Council to provide its Academy revenue and benefits systems. In addition, Capita Software Services will also provide Barnsley with its Academy Streetwise Mobile Computing solution and home working module. The contracts will run over a five year period with a combined value of approximately £1.2 million. As a result, the Councils will benefit directly from an improvement in their internal Revenue and Benefits system, ensuring that they keep up to speed with the latest legislation, which will lead to a more efficient internal process and therefore faster service for over 300,000 citizens.
Set to go live at the end of 2005, Capita Software Services will provide the Councils with applications for Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates and Benefits. The new systems will be based on Capita's Academy Revenues and Benefits products with Internet access for citizens via its self-service applications.
Jon Alsop, Project Revenues System Project Manager at Chesterfield Borough Council, commented, "As a current user of Academy Internet Payments, we were confident of Capita Software Services' expertise and reliability to deliver a high quality revenue and benefits solution. We want to ensure that our citizens benefit from enhanced services and that they can access them in the most convenient way possible."
In addition, thanks to the Academy Streetwise Mobile Computing solution, Council employees at Barnsley Metropolitan Council will be able to verify revenues void inspections and benefits interventions via a handheld device. Employees will also have the capability to work from home and process benefits claims via a secure network using Academy Home and Remote Software.
"We wanted to select a modern revenues and benefits solution that would help deliver Barnsley's 'Best Value' commitment", commented, Hazel Shaw, Revenues System Project Manager at Barnsley Metropolitan. "Our Council employees will benefit from the solution's ease of use while the citizens will gain from efficiency improvements."
Paul Bradbury, Divisional Director for Capita Software Services, commented: "These new contracts with Barnsley and Chesterfield demonstrate the continued success of our Academy suite of products. We are pleased to be building on our success of 25 new wins in 2004. So far this year, we have won over six competitive bids for revenue and benefits services across the country. We look forward to delivering an enhanced, more efficient service to the benefit of the Councils, their employees and in turn their citizens."
