Over 300,000 Citizens in Adur, Horsham and Mid Sussex to Benefit from Enhanced Revenues Service

Capita Software Services today announced that it has been selected by Adur District Council and Horsham District Council in the South East to provide its Academy revenue systems and technical support. In addition, Capita Software Services will provide Adur District Council with its Academy benefits software solution. Each contract will run over a five year period with a combined contract value in excess of £500,000. As a result, both Councils will benefit directly from an improvement in their internal revenue system that in turn will lead to a faster and more efficient service for over 300,000 citizens.

Set to go live in summer 2005, Capita Software Services will provide the Councils with applications for Revenues Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates. The new systems will run off a shared platform even though the Councils are not geographically neighbouring. The open-platform solutions will allow the Councils to further expand their services at a future date, and it is already planned for Mid Sussex District Council to join the shared platform in July 2005, as well as enhance employee working practices such as the option of being able to work from home.

Tony Higgins, Director of Resources of Horsham District Council commented: "We wanted to select a modern revenues solution that would support and help deliver Horsham's 'Best Value' commitment. Our partnership working, combined with the technical support of Capita Software Services, has allowed us to deliver our promise. The Academy products will help enhance the working process via a user-friendly interface and therefore improve service delivery to our citizens."

Capita Software Services has also been contracted by Adur District Council to provide Academy benefits software which will be run off the newly created shared platform. This agreement was tendered through the S-Cat procurement process.

Sheila Wheeler, Director of Corporate Services of Adur District Council commented: "It is through Council partnerships, such as ours with Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils that economies of scale can truly be achieved and such technologies implemented. Capita's replacement of our core Revenue and Benefits system is part of our wider modernisation programme which continues to provide citizens with access to value for money services."

The new systems also adhere to the terms agreed within the newly formed Information Communication and Technology (ICT) partnership between Horsham, Mid Sussex and Adur District Councils who plan to deliver a joint Revenues Services in 2006. By working with Capita Software Services and partnering together, Councils can share skills, pool investment and improve service delivery.
